ArhitechSIGN - urban signs contest organized by Eltrix - decided its winners for 2009 project’s edition. After careful evaluation of the 38 projects registered, the jury decided not to grant the 1st Prize and one Mention (out of two), instead granting a 2nd Prize, two 3rd Prizes and 1 Mention.
2nd Prize and best registered project was awarded to the team Stefanescu Andrei – 5th year student at Architecture and Marcu Elena – 3rd year student at Arhchitecture for the work entitled ,,The Lights On Lipscani Are Switching On !”. The 2 prizes for the 3rd position were grant to the teams Pop Florina, Pavaluca Ioana & Purcaru Simina - 2nd year students at Architecture for ,,Walking Through Light” and to Panait Alina & Maria-Daria Oancea – 3rd year students at Architecture for ,,Urban Zoo”. The Mention was awarded to Remus-Eugen Frunza – 6th year student at Architecture for the work entitled ,,Enlightened Passages”. The jury of the contest benefited from prestigious representatives of architects: Arh. Dan Marin – Vice-President OAR (Architects’ Association – Bucharest chapter), Arh.Iulia Stanciu - Conf. Dr. UAUIM, Arh. Bruno Andreşoiu - Igloo Media General Manager, Arh. Dorin Ştefan Adam - Lecturer Drd. UAUIM and Eltrix representative - Daniel Neculce - Marketing and Communication Manager.
Dorin Stefan Adam, Lector Drd. At UAUIM, the coordinator of contest‘s theme: < The jury considered that most of the students did understood the contest theme and the positioning of the signs in different contexts, but, the works were not specific enough. We observed that most of the students tended to propose figurative solutions. The works that presented solutions for passages and corridors offered suitable responses to the contest theme. The jury did not award the 1st prize because the solutions presented missed the needed information in order to be the winning work. The illuminated signs embedded in the pavement were considered by the jury as possible solutions. Have been also appreciated the works that proposed green lightening and environmentally friendly energy resources .
Ana-Maria Ionescu member of CA Eltrix: „This year contest’s theme, Space and Light, was linked to solving different locations (square, passage or corridor, sidewalk, etc) from architectural signs point of view. The theme pursue to regain the significance of the spaces through small size signs and light. ArhitechSIGN’s objective is to underline the necessity of benefiting from urban signs with functional role of course, but in the same time to create an emotion, a perception of well being. We intend to continue the project in the years to come and our desire is to get together more specialists in architecture and urban space, in order to support, Bucharest’s future modern urban signs.
The winning works and all works registered will be exhibited and presented to public at large at Architecture Annual, which will be held in Bucharest in May, which will also host the winning award ceremony, students having the opportunity to discuss on their works with jury members.
ArhitechSIGN is an Eltrix concept, its main objective being to underline the necessity of having modern urban signs in Bucharest, with functional and aesthetic role. Through this contest, ArhitechSIGN proposes ideas that can be the starting point for urban signs to become landmarks for Bucharest.
The wining projects and the other works registered in the contest can be found on the project’s official site of www.arhitechsign.ro, at section.
